The Okanagan has been quite mild lately, melting the snow and revealing the landscape underneath. I recently stumbled across prickly pear cacti (Opuntia fragilis), whose range is the most northern of all cacti. I saw this species when I was visiting Osoyos last summer, as well as the same genus in Mexico in 2013. It is amazing to see how formidable this type of plant can be, ranging from northern B.C. to southern Patagonia.
